File transfer doesn't need to be complicated

A free and open-source file transfer tool that harnesses the power of cutting-edge peer-to-peer networking, letting you transfer files directly without storing them on cloud servers.
Why rely on WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Google Drive when you can reliably and easily transfer files directly, end-to-end encrypted and without revealing any personal information?
Features

Send anywhere – Works seamlessly on local networks or across continents.
Peer-to-peer direct transfer – Send files straight between devices, with no cloud storage in between.
End-to-end encryption – Always-on protection with QUIC + TLS 1.3 for forward and backward secrecy.
No accounts or personal info – Transfer files without sign-ups or exposing private data.
Transfer anything – Send files or directories of any size or any format, verified with BLAKE3-based integrity checks.
Resumable transfers – Interrupted downloads automatically resume where they left off.
Fast & reliable – Capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for lightning-fast transfers.
NAT traversal via QUIC – Secure, low-latency connections using QUIC hole punching with encrypted relay fallback.
CLI integration – Interoperable with the Sendme CLI.
Mobile & web – Coming soon.
Free & open source – No upload costs, no size limits, and fully community-driven.

This GitHub repository details AltSendme, a free and open-source file transfer tool designed to bypass traditional cloud-based solutions. The project’s core objective is to facilitate direct, peer-to-peer file transfers without requiring users to store data on centralized servers, thereby addressing concerns about privacy and control. The project emphasizes end-to-end encryption, utilizing QUIC and TLS 1.3 for secure communication, and incorporates features like resumable transfers and support for various file formats and sizes.

The software is built using Rust and Node.js, with a frontend developed using TypeScript. It utilizes the Tauri framework for creating a desktop application, offering cross-platform compatibility. The project’s design incorporates NAT traversal via QUIC hole punching, optimized for high-speed transfers across networks. The development team provides clear instructions for both running the application directly from source and contributing to the project. Notable technical components include the use of BLAKE3 for file integrity verification and support for a range of languages, including French, Thai, German, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Czech, Italian, Arabic, Portuguese, Korean, and Spanish, demonstrating a global reach.

Key features highlighted include the absence of accounts or personal information required for use, ensuring user data isn’t stored or tied to personal profiles. The application’s architecture is designed for speed and reliability, leveraging multi-gigabit connections for optimal transfer rates. Technical documentation, including installation instructions and development guidance, is readily available, and the project actively encourages community contributions. The project's licensing (AGPL-3.0) promotes open-source principles and allows for both commercial and non-commercial use. The focus on user privacy, combined with robust technical features, positions AltSendme as a compelling alternative to widely-used cloud-based file transfer services. This design aims to provide users greater control over their data and a simplified, secure file-sharing experience. The project’s development incorporates a robust system of testing and QA, while making use of established, cutting-edge tools and architectures like QUIC and BLAKE3. Further, the team explicitly details integration with established frameworks, such as Tauri, to simplify the development effort.
