Before coming to The Verge, she worked for Gizmodo and PC Magazine.I am not The Verge’s foremost smart home expert, but I sure do love my fourth-gen Nest Learning Thermostat. (As does our actual senior smart home reviewer Jennifer Pattinson Tuohy — she gave it a 9 in her review.) It’s sleek, looks gorgeous on my wall, is easy to use (and install), and most importantly, it helps me save on my utility bills. It also comes with a temperature sensor, which is handy if you live in a multifloor house, or if one room tends to fluctuate a couple degrees more often than others.Amazon and Best Buy both have the thermostat at about $50 off its retail $279.99 price, but if you opt for the polished gold version, you can get it for $209.99 — an all-time low price for the device since it launched. Speaking as someone with the polished gold version, it’s totally worth it. I say this as someone with cool-toned decor, but the gold doesn’t clash like I feared it would, and it offers a cozier vibe overall.Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)$210$28025% off$210Google’s latest Nest Learning Thermostat offers a sleeker design, support for Matter, and a Soli radar sensor to detect if a person is approaching. It also includes a second-gen remote temperature sensor for monitoring the temp in a room of your choosing. Last year, I was a blundering first-time smart home owner and I tried installing a different thermostat. I ended up with a bloody foot and a $975 bill when the professional electricians told me “Just go with a Nest.”Verge DealsSign up for Verge Deals to get deals on products we’ve tested sent to your inbox weekly.Email (required)Sign UpBy submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice. The Nest Learning Thermostat is currently available for $70 off as part of Black Friday sales, a promotion spearheaded by retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy. Senior Reviewer Victoria Song highlights this deal, noting it’s the lowest price the polished gold version has ever been offered at. The discounted price brings the thermostat down to $209.99, a significant reduction from its usual retail price of $279.99. The promotion focuses on the polished gold version, a color choice that Song personally favors and finds aesthetically pleasing, despite initial concerns about its potential clash with her cool-toned decor. This offers a cozy aesthetic, she claims. The fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat includes features like support for Matter, a Soli radar sensor for detecting approaching individuals, and a second-gen remote temperature sensor, which is particularly helpful for multi-story homes or rooms that fluctuate in temperature. The ease of installation is also a key selling point, particularly for first-time smart home users, as Song herself experienced during her own installation. She initially struggled with a different thermostat, incurring a considerable $975 bill due to professional electrician intervention. The Nest Thermostat’s straightforward setup is therefore presented as a major advantage, especially for those new to the smart home ecosystem. The product’s features, combined with the substantial discount, represent a compelling value proposition for consumers seeking to upgrade their home’s climate control system. |
