It had been $750 on Black Friday and all weekend, and it's now been discounted by an extra $50. It's one of the best Cyber Monday tech deals I've seen, as well as one of the overall best Cyber Monday deals out there right now.The specific configuration is what makes this deal even more special though. Amazon's actually selling the more powerful model with the Snapdragon X Elite chip for less money than the X Plus model.Photograph: Brenda StolyarPhotograph: Best BuyChevronChevronMicrosoftSurface Laptop (7th Edition, 2024)$909 $700 (23% off) Amazon$1,200 $1,000 (17% off) Walmart$1,200 $750 (38% off) Microsoft (Snapdragon X Plus)$1,500 $1,050 (30% off) Best Buy (15-inch)Beyond just the price, though, what makes this one of my favorite laptops? My favorite feature is the 3:2 aspect ratio display, which is a bit taller than your average laptop screen. I've always found this to be a very productive screen to work on, and I found myself missing it whenever I switch back to a 16:10 display. Speaking of the display, this is one of the few laptops at this price that comes with a 120-Hz refresh rate, which goes a long way toward making the whole laptop experience feel smoother and more responsive. The one catch is it only comes with 256 GB of storage. The 16 GB of memory is great, but you might want some extra storage, but the 512 GB model at Amazon is sold out (and is not as strong of a deal at other retailers). To me, it feels almost absurd that you can buy a laptop this premium for only $700. Despite being out for well over a year at this point, it still gets excellent, all-day battery life and is surprisingly powerful. I wouldn't try to play modern games on it, but you'll be surprised by just how snappy the performance will feel in day-to-day work. The MacBook Air for $750 is close, yes, but features like the high refresh rate make the Surface Laptop stand out even more.I've been tracking laptop prices all day, so check out my full recommendations for the Best Cyber Monday Laptop Deals.Power up with unlimited access to WIRED. The Surface Laptop has experienced a significant price drop during Cyber Monday, reaching an all-time low of $700. This deal is exclusively available on Amazon and Walmart, and it features the more powerful Snapdragon X Elite chip configuration, which is typically offered at a higher price point than the X Plus model. The price reduction is particularly notable given the laptop’s over-year-old status, highlighting a strategic move by Microsoft to maintain competitiveness. The deal centers around the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop, a model valued for its unique 3:2 aspect ratio display, a feature that enhances productivity and provides a more spacious workspace compared to traditional 16:10 screens. This configuration also includes 16GB of memory, which aims to satisfy the demands of most users. However, it comes with only 256GB of storage, a limitation that some buyers may find insufficient, though the 512GB version is sold out across other retailers. The Snapdragon X Elite chip is known for its impressive performance and power efficiency, allowing for smooth multitasking and responsive application performance. Despite being released over a year ago, the Surface Laptop continues to offer compelling features, including all-day battery life and surprisingly snappy performance, particularly in day-to-day tasks. While it may not be suitable for demanding modern games, its daily usage capabilities remain impressive. The deal is particularly attractive because it positions the Surface Laptop as a strong competitor to the MacBook Air, which is similarly priced at $750. The high refresh rate display differentiates the Surface Laptop, providing a more fluid and responsive user experience. The availability of this deal underscores the dynamic nature of the tech market, where manufacturers adjust pricing strategically to stimulate demand. It’s a focused opportunity for those seeking a premium-feeling laptop without breaking the bank, provided they can manage the storage constraints. |
