The company has been able to start taking orders after receiving FCC clearance for the device — initially held back because of the government shutdown. The OnePlus 15 starts from $899.99 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, jumping to 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage for an extra $100. Anyone who preorders can claim an optional freebie, including the smaller 43mm OnePlus Watch 3 or a pair of Buds 3 Pro earbuds. In our review, my colleague Allison Johnson praised the 15 first and foremost for its enormous 7,300mAh battery, which “easily” lasted two days in her testing, despite the fact that the phone itself is a pretty regular size. That’s thanks to silicon-carbon battery technology, which OnePlus is just about the only major brand in the US to have adopted so far.Although preorders have opened, the store page says it will take another 12 days for the first OnePlus 15 phones to ship to customers. The phone will also be available from Amazon and Best Buy.The preorders arrive just before OnePlus launches the more affordable 15R, which is scheduled for a full reveal on December 17th. We already know that it will be the first phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a slightly less powerful chip than the 8 Elite Gen 5 found in the 15.Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.Dominic PrestonCloseDominic PrestonNews EditorPosts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All by Dominic PrestonGadgetsCloseGadgetsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All GadgetsMobileCloseMobilePosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All MobileNewsCloseNewsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All NewsOnePlusCloseOnePlusPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All OnePlusPhonesClosePhonesPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All PhonesTechCloseTechPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All TechMost PopularMost PopularCrucial is shutting down — because Micron wants to sell its RAM and SSDs to AI companies insteadSteam Machine today, Steam Phones tomorrowApple’s head of UI design is leaving for MetaAntigravity’s 360-degree drone is here to help you forget DJIElon Musk is on a racist posting spree againThe Verge DailyA free daily digest of the news that matters most.Email (required)Sign UpBy submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice. The OnePlus 15 has officially launched pre-orders in the United States, marking a significant step in the phone’s availability following a delayed FCC clearance. This clearance, initially held back due to government shutdown procedures, has now been secured, enabling consumer orders to begin. The phone is currently available for pre-order through OnePlus’s website and will also be accessible via Amazon and Best Buy. Pre-ordering customers are eligible for a bonus, offering a choice between the smaller 43mm OnePlus Watch 3 or a pair of Buds 3 Pro earbuds. Detailed specifications include a starting price of $899.99 for configurations featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, escalating to $100 more for models with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. A key differentiator highlighted in initial reviews, particularly by Allison Johnson, is the phone’s substantial 7,300mAh battery. Johnson’s testing demonstrated the battery’s remarkable longevity, sustaining operation for two full days despite the phone's regular size. This extended battery life is attributed to the utilization of silicon-carbon battery technology, a feature relatively uncommon among major smartphone brands in the US, signifying a technological advantage for OnePlus. The anticipated shipping timeframe for pre-ordered devices is currently estimated at 12 days. Concurrent with the 15’s launch, OnePlus is also preparing for the release of the more affordable 15R, slated for a full unveiling on December 17th. This 15R model will incorporate the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, a slightly less powerful processor compared to the 8 Elite Gen 5 found in the flagship 15. The availability of the OnePlus 15 underscores ongoing shifts in the smartphone market, demanding regulatory approvals—such as FCC clearance—for product launches. The brand’s innovative use of silicon-carbon battery technology, alongside the launch of a more accessible model like the 15R, suggests a strategy of diversification aimed at capturing a broader consumer segment. The 15’s launch schedule, alongside the impending arrival of the 15R, indicates a robust release plan designed to capitalize on current market trends and competing offerings. |
