OpenAI is offering ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 in the United States, for free, but the offer is valid for some accounts only, and it's a limited-time deal.
OpenAI has three subscriptions at the moment:
ChatGPT Go at $8 USD/month
ChatGPT Plus at $20 USD/month
ChatGPT Pro at $200 USD/month
In some regions, you can get GPT Go for free for a limited time, but until now, it was not possible to get ChatGPT Plus, which is OpenAI's most popular subscription, for free.

BleepingComputer recently spotted that GPT Plus is offered for free for a month only to existing subscribers.
Now, there's a new offer that offers GPT Plus for free to everyone, and you can activate it from here.
As spotted on X, you can avail the offer and cancel the subscription anytime until it renews automatically after a month.
OpenAI says ChatGPT Plus is designed for work that requires deeper reasoning, such as writing and editing documents, learning and research, or data analysis.
Compared to Go, Plus includes higher limits for messages, file uploads, memory, and context, so ChatGPT can remember more details from past conversations and support longer, more continuous workflows.
Free and Go will also have ads in the coming weeks.

OpenAI has launched a limited-time promotion offering free access to its ChatGPT Plus subscription, which typically costs $20 per month in the United States. This initiative marks a significant shift in OpenAI’s subscription strategy, as it previously restricted free access to its lower-tier plans while reserving paid features for higher-priced tiers. The promotion, noted by journalist Mayank Parmar in a BleepingComputer article, allows users to activate ChatGPT Plus at no cost for a month, though the offer is available only to certain accounts and expires after a specified period. The move aligns with broader industry trends of using free trials to attract users and test new features, while also potentially expanding OpenAI’s user base by lowering entry barriers for its premium services. The company currently offers three subscription tiers: ChatGPT Go at $8 per month, ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month, and the high-tier ChatGPT Pro at $200 per month. While Go and free plans have historically included advertisements, the introduction of a free trial for Plus suggests OpenAI is prioritizing user engagement with its most advanced capabilities. This development comes amid increasing competition in the AI market, where platforms like Google’s Gemini and Meta’s Llama series are also offering tiered access models. By extending free access to Plus, OpenAI aims to highlight the value of its enhanced features, such as improved message limits, larger file uploads, and expanded memory for maintaining context across conversations. These upgrades are positioned as critical for tasks requiring deeper reasoning, including document editing, research, and data analysis. The promotion’s exclusivity to specific accounts raises questions about how OpenAI is targeting its audience, potentially leveraging existing subscribers or encouraging sign-ups through referral programs. Additionally, the ability to cancel the subscription before it renews automatically adds flexibility for users testing the service. Parmar’s report underscores that this is not the first time OpenAI has experimented with free access, as earlier iterations of ChatGPT Go were available at no cost in certain regions. However, the current offer represents a broader attempt to make Plus accessible to a wider audience, possibly as part of efforts to counter market saturation and retain user loyalty. The article also notes that OpenAI plans to introduce advertisements in free and Go-tier accounts in the near future, a strategic decision to monetize non-premium users while maintaining the premium experience for Plus subscribers. This dual approach reflects a balance between attracting new users and preserving revenue streams from existing paid customers. The timing of the promotion coincides with OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to refine its AI models, including recent updates to ChatGPT’s ability to recall past interactions and integrate with external tools. By offering free access to Plus, the company may be testing user feedback on these enhancements or preparing for future feature rollouts. The article highlights that the free trial is accessible through a direct link, though users are advised to act quickly due to its limited availability. This urgency is likely intended to drive immediate sign-ups and create a sense of exclusivity around the offer. The promotion also coincides with OpenAI’s broader marketing strategy, which includes teasing upcoming features like “Sonata,” a rumored project hinted at in recent hostname leaks. While the free trial of Plus does not explicitly mention access to these future capabilities, it may serve as a precursor to introducing new tools through premium subscriptions. The article’s context is further enriched by related coverage, including OpenAI’s recent ads policy and its efforts to ensure user trust in AI-generated content. These elements collectively position the free ChatGPT Plus offer as part of a larger narrative around accessibility, innovation, and competition in the AI landscape. For users considering the promotion, the key takeaway is that it provides an opportunity to evaluate Plus’s advanced features without financial commitment. However, the temporary nature of the deal means users must weigh the benefits of immediate access against potential future costs. The article also touches on broader implications for OpenAI’s business model, suggesting that free trials could become a recurring strategy to attract and retain users in an increasingly competitive market. As the AI industry continues to evolve, such promotions may become more common, reflecting a shift toward hybrid monetization strategies that blend free and paid tiers. Parmar’s report serves as a timely reminder of the dynamic nature of AI services, where user access and pricing models are constantly adapting to technological advancements and market demands. The summary of this promotion, therefore, not only highlights the immediate benefits of free ChatGPT Plus access but also contextualizes it within the broader ecosystem of AI innovation and commercialization.
