It shares some functionality with Nintendo’s Alarmo alarm clock, but the Talking Flower seems more like a talkative companion for fans of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.First and foremost, as the name implies, the Talking Flower will just randomly speak a couple of times every hour when left alone with phrases like “sometimes it’s nice to space out,” and “is it weird for flowers to talk?” A single button on the toy can be pressed to trigger random thoughts on demand, or you can press and hold the button to silence the Talking Flower for a while. There’s music, too, and at launch it will support 11 different languages including English, Italian, and Japanese. You can also set the Talking Flower to speak at specific times of day, such as greeting you in the morning or saying good night as you head to bed, and some of its random phrases are only triggered at specific times of the day. It’s got a built-in sensor so it can comment on the temperature in the room, and instead of using LEDs or a screen, the Talking Flower will just tell you when its batteries are running low. The toy will be available for preorder today through the My Nintendo Store and other retailers, and is expected to release on March 12th, 2026.Surprisingly, this wasn’t the only flower-related news from Nintendo today. The company also released an overview trailer for the upcoming Switch 2 update for Mario Wonder, and it includes a new power-up called the “bellabel flower.” That update is out on March 26th.Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.Andrew LiszewskiCloseAndrew LiszewskiSenior Reporter, NewsPosts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All by Andrew LiszewskiGadgetsCloseGadgetsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All GadgetsGamingCloseGamingPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All GamingNintendoCloseNintendoPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All NintendoTechCloseTechPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All TechToysCloseToysPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All ToysMost PopularMost PopularWhat a Sony and TCL partnership means for the future of TVsVolvo aims for an EV reset with the new EX60 crossoverEveryone can hear your TV in their headphones using this transmitterHow much can a city take?Anthropic’s new Claude ‘constitution’: be helpful and honest, and don’t destroy humanityThe Verge DailyA free daily digest of the news that matters most.Email (required)Sign UpBy submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice. Nintendo is following up Alarmo with a weird Talking Flower in March Nintendo is releasing a new interactive toy, the Talking Flower, in March 2026, designed as a companion for fans of *Super Mario Bros. Wonder*. The toy, developed in conjunction with the existing Alarmo alarm clock, incorporates a somewhat surreal concept: a talking flower that offers unsolicited commentary and observations. Primarily, the Talking Flower is programmed to deliver random phrases, such as “sometimes it’s nice to space out,” and “is it weird for flowers to talk?” These utterances occur approximately twice per hour. Users can manually trigger these phrases via a single button press, or hold down the button to silence the flower. The Talking Flower is equipped with a built-in microphone and environmental sensor. It can respond to the ambient temperature of the room, offering remarks like “it’s a bit chilly in here” or “the sun is shining brightly.” This functionality replaces the previous reliance on LEDs or a screen for conveying information. Furthermore, the toy has a programmed schedule that allows it to deliver messages at specific times of day, including greetings in the morning and goodnight remarks before sleep. This adds a layer of personalized interaction beyond the random phrases. The Talking Flower supports 11 different languages at launch, encompassing English, Italian, and Japanese, suggesting a deliberate targeting of a diverse player base. It is available for preorder starting today through the My Nintendo Store and other retailers, with a planned release date of March 12th, 2026. Notably, this release coincides with the upcoming launch of the Mario Wonder update, which includes a new game power-up called the “bellabel flower.” This integration seeks to capitalize on the excitement surrounding the *Super Mario Bros. Wonder* update, further embedding the Talking Flower within the Mario universe. The design of the Talking Flower itself is unassuming, blending a realistic floral appearance with a simple, tactile button. The interactive nature of the toy suggests Nintendo is continuing to explore unconventional and engaging methods for enriching the *Super Mario Bros. Wonder* experience. |
