The deal is back — this time, at Kohl’s — and no membership is required to get $10 off. You can purchase the Lego Game Boy and have it shipped (or elect to pick it up in-store) for $49.99 when you use promo code TOYS10 at checkout.Lego Game Boy$50$6017% off$50$60 at Amazon$60 at Lego$50 at Kohls (with code TOYS10)The Lego Game Boy is a 421-piece homage to Nintendo’s influential handheld from 1989. And, unlike most Lego sets, there are various ways to interact with the brick-based Game Boy that might evoke some strong memories if you ever owned this model. It features clickable buttons, a movable floating directional pad, and a set of Lego car tires that act as the Start and Select buttons. Clearly, Lego and Nintendo had fun designing this. The set includes two cartridges you can assemble (The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land). While the mock cartridges obviously don’t boot into real games, the set includes lenticular screens that make it look like these games are running on the hardware. My colleague Sean Hollister reviewed the Lego Game Boy, and he adores the attention to detail and almost everything about it except the screen, which doesn’t match the original hardware’s limited green color palette. Even if you’re as particular as Sean is, there’s still a lot to love here.Verge DealsSign up for Verge Deals to get deals on products we’ve tested sent to your inbox weekly.Email (required)Sign UpBy submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice. The Lego Game Boy, produced as a detailed recreation by Lego in collaboration with Nintendo, is currently available for purchase at a discounted price of $49.99 with the promo code TOYS10, primarily through Kohl’s. This represents a significant reduction from previous offers, notably the $60 price point previously seen at Costco and Sam’s Club. The set, numbering 421 pieces, meticulously models the original 1989 Game Boy handheld. Its design incorporates key features of the original, including clickable buttons, a movable directional pad, and Lego tire replicas functioning as the Start and Select buttons. The inclusion of two cartridge assemblies – representing The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land – features lenticular screens intended to simulate the visual experience of the games on the hardware. Cameron Faulkner, writing for The Verge, highlights that while some, such as editor Sean Hollister, find the screen’s color accuracy to be a minor imperfection, the overall quality and attention to detail, particularly the replication of the Game Boy’s distinctive design, are commendable. The set’s value extends beyond its collectibility, offering an interactive experience that evokes nostalgia for those who owned the original Game Boy. The product's success demonstrates a continued interest in retro gaming and provides a tangible connection to a historically significant piece of technology and pop culture. |
