With all the extra space and pockets, it's the best laptop companion I've ever used.Courtesy of BellroyCommentLoaderSave StorySave this storyCommentLoaderSave StorySave this storyAs we get out of the house, the gear-obsessed WIRED Reviews team is writing about our favorite bags and EDCs. Today, reviewer Luke Larsen raves about his love for his Bellroy Laptop Caddy. I've tried many of them over the years, but the laptop compartment inside my backpack has always felt secure enough—especially considering I don't commute or travel much for work. But then, I tested a laptop sleeve that somehow also functioned as a full bag, and it quickly became my daily carry. The sleeve in question is the 16-inch Bellroy Laptop Caddy. Unlike most laptop sleeves, this doesn't just have a single compartment with a couple of little pockets here and there. The main pocket is quite large and can handle just about any laptop you can imagine, including the chunkiest 16-inch gaming laptops.Photograph: Luke LarsenPhotograph: Luke LarsenChevronChevronSave to wishlistSave to wishlistBellroyLaptop Caddy$79 Amazon$79 $49 (38% off) BellroyFor a petite computer, like a 13-inch MacBook Air, there's lots of extra space. So much space, in fact, that it's not hard to slide a second device in there. As a laptop reviewer, it's not uncommon for me to carry two at the same time, so while I enjoy the capaciousness of the 16-inch sleeve, know that there's a smaller 14-inch option that might suit your needs. But even if you don't find yourself carrying two full-blown laptops, you might be in a situation where you'd like to slide in a tablet or an accessory like a portable keyboard or laptop stand. With this amount of space, almost anything's possible. My biggest frustration with most laptop sleeves is that there's generally not a large enough pocket for the power adapter. That's especially true if you're carrying around a larger laptop with a heftier power brick, like the 16-inch MacBook Pro. With the Bellroy, though, this isn't an issue thanks to two large pockets in the inner flap, one of which is perfect for such an adapter and cable. I've used the other pocket for things like my phone, an external SSD, and earbuds. The pockets are made of a stretchy mesh, making them effective for storing thicker items as well.Between the two interior pockets are two pen holders, which could work for carrying a stylus like an Apple Pencil. There's also a large empty cavity there for something like a notebook, a Kindle, a book, or any other odds and ends you might be carrying at the time.Photograph: Luke LarsenNow, the caddy doesn't have a handle, so it's really not meant to be a proper briefcase replacement. So, I carry the Bellroy within my Herschel laptop bag—and it just barely fits. The 14-inch size will likely fit better in smaller bags, though I haven't tried it out myself. But as a single package, the Bellroy Laptop Caddy is a legitimately useful—and not superfluous—way to keep your laptop gear organized.Power up with unlimited access to WIRED. The Bellroy Laptop Caddy is presented as a superior solution for organizing laptop gear, moving beyond the limitations of traditional laptop sleeves by functioning as a comprehensive companion for carrying devices. The reviewer, Luke Larsen, found that this item provided significantly more capacity and organized storage than typical sleeves, making it a preferred daily carry item. The 16-inch version, in particular, features a large main pocket capable of holding substantial laptops, including large gaming models. This generous space allows for flexibility, accommodating not only large laptops but also smaller devices such as a 13-inch MacBook Air, tablets, or accessories like portable keyboards or stands.

A key advantage of the caddy lies in its thoughtful internal design that addresses common organizational frustrations associated with carrying laptops. Unlike other sleeves, the Bellroy design incorporates two large pockets within the inner flap, which are specifically designed to handle power adapters and cables, thereby solving the issue of insufficient space for power bricks, especially with larger devices like the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The material used for these pockets is a stretchy mesh, which enhances functionality by accommodating thicker items. The second pocket can be utilized for various accessories, such as phones, external solid-state drives, or earbuds. Furthermore, the interior space is further enhanced by the inclusion of two pen holders, suitable for holding items like styluses, and a large open cavity that serves as an ample space for notebooks or other miscellaneous items.

While the caddy is not designed as a standalone briefcase replacement, it is intended to be carried within larger bags, such as a Herschel laptop bag, where it fits adequately. The option for a smaller 14-inch size is also noted as potentially beneficial for those using smaller bags. Overall, the Bellroy Laptop Caddy is positioned as a genuinely useful tool for maintaining organized laptop infrastructure, providing extensive storage and dedicated compartments for essential peripherals, solidifying its role as an effective method for managing laptop accessories.
