In its announcement, YouTube says custom content feeds can be built around your specific interests, moods, or favorite topics, which you can then pin to the top of your YouTube homepage — making it easy to jump back into the feed. This feature is currently rolling out with English language support to YouTube users in the US who are signed-in on the YouTube mobile app or desktop. To access it, click on the “Your custom feed” tab at the top of the YouTube homepage and enter a prompt description into the AI text box. For example, you can ask the YouTube AI to “help me unwind with guided meditations under 10 minutes,” or for “deep-dive tech podcasts about AI,” and then receive a curated feed based on your request. It’s similar to other AI-powered feed customization features we’ve seen from other platforms, including Spotify’s prompted playlists. Instagram also gave users more control over their Reels feed algorithm in December, though that uses topic lists rather than descriptive prompts.YouTube says that prompts can be edited at any time to “generate a brand new space” by selecting the text box at the top of your custom feed. To see the “Your custom feed” tab, YouTube says you need to ensure your search and watch history are enabled in your account settings. If the AI messes up your feed request, you can also report the issue to YouTube by clicking the 3-dot menu on the feature tab and selecting “Something wrong?” to leave feedback.Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.Jess WeatherbedCloseJess WeatherbedNews ReporterPosts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All by Jess WeatherbedAICloseAIPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All AINewsCloseNewsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All NewsStreamingCloseStreamingPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All StreamingYouTubeCloseYouTubePosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All YouTubeMost PopularMost PopularValve raises Steam Deck prices by more than $200Sony’s first RGB TV is a statement pieceSony is offering up to 50 percent off some of our favorite PS5 gamesHere’s how Google is responding to Fitbit users who don’t like the new Health appThe AI fight brewing inside The New York TimesThe Verge DailyA free daily digest of the news that matters most.Email (required)Sign UpBy submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice. YouTube is introducing a new artificial intelligence feature that enables users to request a custom video feed based on specific descriptions, allowing personalization of their viewing experience. This feature permits users to define desired content streams, whether based on interests, moods, or favorite topics, and these curated feeds can be pinned to the top of the YouTube homepage for easy access. The functionality is currently rolling out with English language support for signed-in YouTube users on both the mobile application and desktop versions in the United States. To utilize this feature, users access the customization options via the “Your custom feed” tab on the YouTube homepage and input a descriptive prompt into the designated text box. For instance, a user could request content such as "help me unwind with guided meditations under 10 minutes" or "deep-dive tech podcasts about AI," and the AI will generate a resulting feed tailored to that request. This capability functions similarly to other AI-driven feed customization tools observed on other platforms, such as Spotify’s prompted playlists. While Instagram also provided users with increased control over their Reels feed algorithm in December, that system utilized topic lists rather than free-form descriptive prompts. YouTube emphasizes that the prompts are dynamic, allowing users to edit the text box at any time to generate an entirely new space. Accessing this custom feed section requires that search and watch history settings must be enabled within the user's account settings. To ensure quality control, the system provides a mechanism for users to report issues with the AI-generated feed by selecting the three-dot menu on the feature tab and choosing the option to report something wrong. The development of this feature relies on the user's existing search and watch history being active within their YouTube account settings. |
