The Windows and Nvidia GeForce accounts on X both posted “A new era of PC” earlier today, and now Arm has followed up with an identical post. All three posts include coordinates pointing to where Computex is hosted in Taipei. Nvidia is holding a Computex keynote in Taipei at 8PM PT / 11PM ET on Sunday night, where it’s rumored to be announcing its new N1 and N1x laptop chips. These Arm-powered Nvidia processors have been long-rumored, with reports earlier this year suggesting that both Lenovo and Dell have been preparing new laptops with the N1X chips. We first heard rumors about Nvidia’s laptop processors in 2023, and Dell CEO Michael Dell hinted at the possibility of an AI PC with Nvidia during an interview in 2024.Nvidia’s entry into Windows on Arm will mean Qualcomm will no longer have an exclusive license for Microsoft’s Windows 11 Arm variant of its operating system. That’s good news for laptop competition, even if Qualcomm is trying to keep entry-level laptops affordable with its new Snapdragon C platform.Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.Tom WarrenCloseTom WarrenSenior CorrespondentPosts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All by Tom WarrenComputexCloseComputexPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All ComputexGadgetsCloseGadgetsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All GadgetsLaptopsCloseLaptopsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All LaptopsMicrosoftCloseMicrosoftPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All MicrosoftNewsCloseNewsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All NewsNvidiaCloseNvidiaPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All NvidiaTechCloseTechPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All TechWindowsCloseWindowsPosts from this topic will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.FollowFollowSee All WindowsMost PopularMost PopularKia’s flagship EV has a battery problemHow Ferrari bungled the design of its first EVHundreds of prolific Wikipedia editors are threatening to go on strikeThis is MSI’s new Claw 8 EX AI Plus gaming handheldThe golden age of handheld gaming is already overThe Verge DailyA free daily digest of the news that matters most.Email (required)Sign UpBy submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice. Nvidia, Microsoft, and Arm are collectively generating significant buzz around Nvidia’s forthcoming N1X laptop processors, which has been publicly teased by all three entities. This anticipation is heightening ahead of Nvidia’s keynote presentation at Computex, where details regarding the new N1 and N1X laptop chips are rumored to be announced. The coordination among the companies is evident in their public messaging, as posts from the Windows and Nvidia GeForce accounts, and Arm itself, all used messaging, such as "A new era of PC," accompanied by coordinates pointing to the Computex event in Taipei.

These Arm-powered Nvidia processors have been a subject of extensive speculation, with prior reports indicating that manufacturers like Lenovo and Dell were preparing to integrate the N1X chips into new laptop models. This development touches upon broader strategic shifts within the PC hardware landscape. Specifically, Nvidia's move into the Windows on Arm ecosystem signals a change in licensing dynamics, as it removes Qualcomm's exclusive license for Microsoft’s Windows 11 Arm variant operating system. This shift is viewed as potentially beneficial for laptop competition, even while Qualcomm continues to focus on maintaining affordability with platforms like the Snapdragon C. The situation underscores the complex interplay between semiconductor architecture, operating system licensing, and the competitive drive in the laptop market.
